TWO FINE PAINTINGS
LENT TO ART GALLERY
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, This Day.
From one of the most valuable private collections in New Zealand two original paintings, one by Sir Joshua Reynolds and one by Mr. J. M. Turner, have been lent to the Art Gallery by Dr. M. Monheimer. Both these pictures have been exhibited in Europe, and that of Sir Joshua Reynolds has been widely exhibited in the United States where, on one occasion, an offer of 1500 dollars (£300) was made for it but not accepted. The painting, "Miss Palmer," is an interesting study of the artist's niece reading in reposeful attitude. It is a typical Reynolds study, noteworthy for its excellent blending of colours. "Frankenstein" is the title of the Turner subject, and represents Frankenstein Castle on the Rhine.
