CENTENNIAL MARCH
PRIZE TO DUNEDIN
The prize for the best Centennial march has been awarded to Mr. A. H. Pettitt, of Dunedin, the general manager of the" Exhibition Company (Mr, C. P. Hainsworth) announced today.
Some time ago the directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company agreed to a suggestion that a competition should be held by New Zealand musicians for this purpose. The judges were \ Mr.. James Dickson (Dunedin), Captain G. Buckley (Auckland), and Mr: T. Kirk-Burnnard (Wellington), with Professor Shelley as arbitrator should the judges not -be unanimous. Although • the judges worked independently, entirely apart from each other, they were unanimous that, Mr. Pettitt's composition was the most suitable. The march will be published for pianoforte, orchestra, band, and military band. The march greatly impressed Mr. C. A. Rendle, manager for Messrs. Chas. Begg and Co., Ltd., who heard it played last week.
