WROTE A FAMOUS SONG

Lady Arthur Hill, who sixty years ago composed the world-famous song "In the Gloaming" recently celebrated her 90th birthday at her home in Belgravia, England. She described to the "News Chronicle" how she wrote the ballad which has thrilled the hearts of several generations. She said: —"A friend sent me the Swords'in a letter one morning. I : liked : them very much and after breakfast went upstairs to the piano, and wrote the music in fifteen minutes—or twenty at the most. It just came to me. I think it was extraordinary that an amateur should have the knack of composing songs which seem to be liked so universally.*
