DEATH OF CHIEF
STEWARD
FUNERAL AT SUVA

AUCKLAND, May 1
Further particulars of the death of Mr. Maurice McFadyen, chief steward of the Niagara, which occurred on Thursday night,, were given by the liner's officers when she arrived at Auckland from Vancouver.
Mr.; McFadyen, who was 47 years old, was in indifferent health on the northward ' voyage. After the liner left Vancouver his condition became worse, and eventually he had to relinquish duty. He died two hours before the Niagara berthed at Suva. The funeral, which took place the following morning, was attended by fully half the ship's, company, and a large number of friends whom Mr. McFadyen had made in many calls at the port. A Masonic service was held, together with the burial service of the Australian Returned Soldiers' and Sailors' Imperial League, of which there .is a sub-branch in the Niagara.
Mr. McFadyen had been many years in the trans-Pacific trade and joined the Niagara about the time that the San Francisco-Sydney service was discontinued. He had previously been in the Makura and Maunganui. His widow and two children live in Sydney. '
