STRUGGLE IN PLANE

PANDA AND PILOT

AMERICAN SUPER-NEWS ITEM

(Received May 2, 2 p.m.)

PITTSBURG, May 1

A giant panda in an aeroplane is news, but when a 70-pound bundle of angry Chinese fur and claws goes on the rampage and finds its way from the luggage department where' it was chained, enters the control cabin, and bites and scratches one pilot while the other lands the plane safely, that is super news American newspapers today feature this item. The panda was en route to the Bronx Zoo, New York, in charge of Dr. A. Best, of the West China Union University. The passengers were unaware of the struggle until the plane landed at Pittsburg, when Dr. Best asked: "Has anybody any fresh bamboo? That will pacify her." Ther« was no fresh bamboo available.
