DUNTROON TRAINEES
COAST ARTILLERY COURSE
Graduates of the Royal Military College of Australia, Duntroon, Lieutenants JR.. B. Symon (Wellington), R. de la Cour (Christchurch), and J. Burns (Wellington) returned today by the Awatea after having undergone a course of' about three months in coast artillery training at the School of Artillery, Sydney, which followed their passing out of Duntroon. A fourth member of the party which returned today was Captain B. Wicksteed, R.N.Z.A. (Wellington), who also attended the coast artillery course. Lieutenants Symon, de la Cour, and Burns are being posted to their stations as members of the New Zealand Staff Corps. A son of the former Director of Artillery (Colonel F. Symon), who has retired from the New Zealand Defence Forces, Lieutenant Symon, while at Duntroon, had the signal honour to be awarded the King's Medal for exemplary conduct, and the Sword of Honour, for being the best in his class. . He was the first New Zealander to gain this double award.
