STATE HOUSES & FAMILIES

(To thei Editor.)

Sir, —Can I draw.the attention of the public once again: to the unfairness meted out to some of the applicants for State houses? My kusband and I have been living in onei- room for two and a half years, and for the last year and ten months have a baby son. The house in which we have this room has seven rooms, and there are two other families besides us, the total number being nine. The only cooking conveniencel is an out-of-date gas stove, and you can imagine the scramble trying to get meals for three families on this. I have been in personally to the State Advances Office and have written repeatedly but I can get no satisfaction, yet I can. state two cases in the last month or six weeks where houses have been granted to persons having no claim in the face of others with families. One young couple got married and a month afterwards were in a State house, and another young man with an application in was told that he had no chance of a house unless he was married. He got married and a week after he returned from his honeymoon he was granted a State house. It makes one very depressed to see things like this happen. The cry is going out ifor more babies,

but where is one to keep them? Certainly not in one room as I am forced to do with mine, yet quite a number of State house tenants have no family. -—I am, etc.,

HOMELESS.
