LESS COSTLY SEAT
WOMAN M.P.'S DESIRE
LONDON, April 17,
The political correspondent of the "Daily Herald," in announcing the decision of Mrs. Tate, Conservative member of the House of Commons, not to contest the Frome seat at the next election because she intends to find a less costly constituency, adds, "She has apparently decided that it will be impossible to resist the strong challenge from the Labour candidate, Mr. R. W. G. Mackay, a former Sydney solicitor, who was only 994 votes behind her at the last election."
The voting in the Frome electorate in 1935 was:—Mrs. Tate (Con.), 19,684; Mr. Mackay (Lab.), 18,690; Mr. P. W. Hopkins (Lib.), 4177.
