BOWLING

SEASON ENDS

TROPHIES PRESENTED

The Wellington bo"wling season cams to an end officially on Saturday afternoon, when the trophies and certificates won in the centre's competitions were presented on the Island Baygreen. There was a large attendance of bowlers and visitors, and several competitive matches were played. The presentation was made by Mr. M. J. Casey, centre president, who congratulated Mr. W. Ketrri president of the Island Bay Club, on the good work he had accomplished during his term of office. He also remarked on the fine record of 21 years' service as honorary secretary held by Mr; H. F. Clarke, who had also done yeoman service for many years as centre delegate. Mr. Casey introduced Mr. V. J. Brogan, who was the principal originator and first honorary secretary of the centre, which was formed in 1906-07. Mr. Brogan had also been honorary secretary for many years at the Newtown and Thorndon Clubs.

Mr. Casey, in declaring the 1938-39 season closed, said he would be relinquishing office as centre president in .the near future. He was deeply indebted to club executives and bowlers generally for the great assistance given him during his term of office, lne season had been a most successful one, and he felt sure that next year s Centennial tournament would ba tho largest of its kind yet held in Wellington, if not in New Zealand. weTfas^lfow^ 5 "* certi^atet Champion of Champion Singles.— ?»/) ' Bradley, Lyall Bay; singles cup and certificate for self and clutr.
