LIVE DANGEROUSLY
«. _ The Japanese Ambassador in Moscow, Mr. Shigemitsu, who was recalled from leave owing to the shooting of a Japanese soldier on the Soviet-Man-chukuo frontier, has found the diplomatic career full of adventure. Six years ago he lost a leg in Shanghai. He was then Japanese Minister to China. At a review a bomb was thrown and six of the most dis-' tinguished Japanese in Shanghai were severely injured. Mr. Shigemitsu was "blown off the platform like a leaf in the wind." He succeeded Mr. Ota as Ambassador in Moscow two years ago. One of his first public statements created an unfavourable impression. Moscow asked sharply why he had been sent there. . Soon afterwards Mr. Sigemitsu was attacked by the official Communist paper, "Pravda." This time a communication to the Press was described as a "silly document," and Mr. Shigemitsu has recommended to find other uses for his "literary temperament."
