RED CROSS WORK

SEATOUN PREPARING

MANY MEMBERS ENROLLED

. A large and representative gathering of Seatoun residents attended a meeting of the Seatoun sub-centre of the Red Cross Society at the Seatoun Kiosk on Thursday evening. The purpose of the meeting was to enrol members to attend lectures and classes which have been arranged to take place on Tuesday evenings at 8 o'clock at the church annexe. The president, Mrs. L. A. Whitaker, was in the chair, iand gave a brief summary of the for|mation of the Seatoun branch, stressing the necessity of readiness and organisation during these difficult times of stress and anxiety. Captain Galloway, from headquarters, was present, and spoke feelingly of the work already accomplished in organising branches on the outskirts of the city, and promised help and encouragement from the Wellington centre. A source of encouragement was felt in the presence of many of the young people of Seatoun, both boys and girls, who have decided to take up this most important national work. A feature of the evening was an excellent demonstration arranged by Miss Avril Nicholl, V.A.D., secretary of the branch, who brought out a team ,of young men and women from the Wellington centre. The men, under Mr. C. Harkness, gave an interesting display of their skill in dealing with a fracture of the thigh, while Miss Cooper, V.A.D., and Miss Nicholl demonstrated the various' methods .of bed-making used in nursing. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the team for their efforts. A,most successful evening was brought to a close with the enrolment of a large number of people who desired to join the society and take the course of lectures and instruction. It was stated that the Seatoun sub-centre' would welcome any others who were interested and felt it their duty to be prepared for all emergencies. ,
