BRILLIANT WEATHER

NO CHANGE FORESHADOWED

Special forecast for Wellington;— Light and variable winds. Weather fine and mild, with a cool night. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for [the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for [bright and variable winds, with southeasterlies predominating in the north and northerlies in the south. The weather will be fair to fine generally, with mild day and cool night temperatures, and with morning fogs.

Still another fine day was experienced yesterday throughout practically the whole of the Dominion, only three or four out of the eighty recording stations reporting any rain. These three or four were on the coast south of Dunedin, and the rain they recorded was quite insignificant, two points being the maximum fall. This was at Nuggets Point. In eastern districts the weather was sunny all day, while in western districts it was rather cloudy in the morning but better in the afternoon. A rather similar distribution of weather was prevailing again this morning. Winds generally have been light and variable, and this has favoured the formation of morning fogs.

As an intense anticyclone still continues to control the meteorological situation there is still but little prospect of a break in the prevailing drought.

Auckland's weather yesterday was cloudy but fine, a light wind from the west-south-west freshening in the afternoon. Temperatures were moderate, 67 degrees being the maximum and 54.6 degrees the minimum. Similar conditions prevailed this morning.

Apart"-from some early morning cloud, Wellington had blue skies throughout yesterday, 9.2 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 65.7 and 50 degrees' respectively. There was a light northerly wind, but this died away to a calm shortly before midnight, and this morning's weather was again perfect with brilliant sunshine.

Christchurch also had a fine and sunny day, and although the wind was a moderate southerly temperatures were mild, the maximum being 67.4 degrees and the minimum 43.4 degrees. There was a clear sky last night, morning fog forming about 8 o'clock today.

Dunedin had some early morning mist, but the rest of the day was brilliantly fine with an almost complete absence of wind. Similar pleasant conditions seem probable for today. The one point of rain recorded at the Heads was really dew.

including four new squadrons formed last year, totals 30 squadrons. Additional squadrons will be formed in accord with the programme to increase British overseas strength to approximately 500 first-line aircraft. The Minister added that, following a review of requirements for protection of British overseas territories and trade, the formation of yet more squadrons had been approved.

An interesting development is extension overseas of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve organisation. Sections may be formed, for example, in Malaya, Hong Kong, and East Africa. In some places the training facilities available for R.A.F. units may be used; in others civil flying training schools may be brought in for the purpose.
