RAILWAYS BUSY

As was anticipated, railway travel has been in excess of last year's. At present only Thursday's passenger figures are available. The total number which travelled to and from Wellington station was 10,050, an increase of approximately 700, made up as follows:—To Auckland 2100, from Auckland 1000; to Taranaki area 1300, from Taranaki 500; to Hawke's Bay 1300, from Hawke's Bay 500; to the Manawatu and Palmerston North 1950, from Palmerston North area 450; to the Wairarapa 700, from the Wairarapa 250. ; The bookings have been fully maintained since Thursday, so that an increase over last year's Easter statistics seems assured. Trains so far have run well to time.
