RADIO CHURCH BROADCASTS
ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, April 2
An allegation that three factors, the attitude of the Government,...commercial antagonism, and denominational prejudice had been responsible for the discontinuance of the broadcasts of the Radio Church of the Helping Hand, was made by the Rev. Leslie B. Neale, when addressing almost 3000 people at the fifth birthday gathering of the Radio Church held under the auspices of the Methodist Central Mission in the Town Hall tonight.
Mr. Neale explained that negotiations were in progress for the transference of the sessions to Station 3ZB, but that was dependent on the permission of 3ZB and on the Government's granting the extra time necessary to that station. The Acting Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon. F. Jones) had said that the Government would be prepared to consider representations from Station 3ZB towards that end.
"I had been hoping to continue the work we have been doing," Mr. Neale added, "and it is tragic that our services should have been cut off. Notice of the closing down of the station was received only on March 13."
A resolution was adopted urging that permission be given for the continuance of the broadcasts.
