HUTT CARNIVAL

FINAL ARRANGEMENTS

A meeting of the committee to make final arrangements for the Hutt Valley Centennial Carnival, which will com? mence tomorrow in the Recreation Ground, Lower Hutt, was held last evening. The oragniser reported that five bands had agreed to take part in the procession from Buick Street, Petone, to Lower Hutt, at 1.30 p.m. Other features would be a military unit, a "Dark-town" fire brigade, a display by cinema industries, sports organisations, six floats from the. railway workshops, about twenty floats from the motor industries, decorated bicycles, boy scouts, a display by the businesses and professions committee, displays by the industries, the woollen mills "kazoo" band, a display of comedy and ancient cars, decorated private cars, and a display by the Petone Maori P arty- , , _v * The organiser also announced that a full athletic programme, including a ten miles cycling "Derby," had been arranged for the afternoon on the Hutt Recreation Ground by the Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club, and that the arrangements for Saturday evening, also on the Hutt Recreation Ground, included a band marching exhibition, an exhibition of New Zealand championship events by Valley fire brigades, Highland dancing, etc. The programme of events, including special attractions for each day for the whole of the carnival week, was approved by the committee.
