EGG MARKETING
GUARANTEED PRICE
MINISTER'S ATTITUDE
"What would the Minister's reaction be to a resolution from this conference asking that the poultry industry should be brought under the guaranteed price scheme?" was a question asked of the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) at the annual conference of the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation in Wellington.
"I would give it my support, but it comes in the province of the Minister for Marketing," said Mr. Martin. "I would be in favour of it because it is in line with the Government's policy, and if we make provision for other sections we should make provision for the poultry section. We set out with the idea of giving everyone who is helping to produce the national wealth a' share in that wealth. That would be my attitude provided, of course, that the industry, or a large section of it, was unanimous.I*'1 *'
Mr. G. D. Hunter (Waikato) asked if the Minister would use his influence with the Minister for Marketing to have a marketing scheme for eggs brought down and to have some announcement made before the conference concluded. "I know in my electorate that might have some tangible results," said Mr. Hunter amidst laughter.
Mr. Martin said he thought that the Minister would want more time, but he would do what he could.
