STOWAWAY ON AWATEA
"One of a number of men who have obtained free passages from Australia to New Zealand during the last two or three months" »vas how Sub-Inspec-tor J. A. Dempsey, in the Magistrate's Court today, described Jack Mclntyre, aged 35, a labourer, who pleaded guilty to stowing away on the Awatea on her recent trip from Sydney.
Mclntyre said he was conndent of getting work and that when he did so he would pay the amount of the fare, £9. On that condition he was convicted and ordered to come up for sen* tence if called upon within 18 month*.
