DANCING EXAMINER
MISS DANETREE WARNED
CREAM WITH EVERY MEAL
(By Air Mail, from "The Post's" London
Representative.)
LONDON, March 10.
The examiner for the Royal Academy of Dancing in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand this year will be Miss Kathleen Danetree. She left England for South Africa this week, and she expects to reach New Zealand late in August or early in September. If the trans-Tasman air service has begun by then, Miss Danetree will fly from Sydney to Auckland.
A number of centres will be visited in New Zealand, including Rotorua, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Miss Danetree plans to fly from centre to centre since the time at her disposal is.limited and she must return to London by Christmas.
A farewell dinner was given in Miss Danetree's honour by the Royal Academy of Dancing before she left England. Madame Adeline Genee, who presided, wished her bon voyage and bon retour. Mentioning that the examinations Were conducted in the Dominions every second year she said that there had been 400 more candidates in Australia and New Zealand in 1937 than in 1935. ■
Mr. Felix Demery, examiner in 1937, warned Miss Danetree that she was in danger of not keeping her figure in New Zealand, since the most amazing quantities of cream were served with every meal. He regretted that his own visit to New Zealand had been rather rushed. He had been much impressed by Rotorua, which, he declared to be "absolutely uncanny."
The Royal Academy of Dancing, primarily an examining body, is principally interested in ballet dancing. It has no connection with ballroom dancing.
