TRAPPED IN ICE
WHALING CATCHERS
JAPANESE IN ANTARCTIC
(Received March 25, 11 a.m.)
FREMANTLE, This Day.
The officers of Japanese whaling ships which have arrived, at Fremantle stated that three catchers had been abandoned in the Antarctic, and they feared that the catchers would -be crushed to pieces by ice.
The catchers were sheltering in a bay when the mouth of the bay closed upon them. For several days they tried to break through the ice and then the crews walked five miles across the ice and were picked up by another catcher which had been standing by to help them. '
