DULL WEATHER

" SOME DRIZZLING'RAIN

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate but freshening southeasterly winds. Weather dull and

cool, with drizzling rain at times.

The forecast for the Dominion as a whole issued by the Meteorological Office at noon today is for southerly to south-easterly, winds from. the Wellington Province southwards, and extending northwards to Taranaki and Hawke's Bay, and for easterlies to northerlies over the northern part of the North Island, light to moderate in force, but freshening. The weather will be overcast with drizzling rain over the middle portion of the South Island, elsewhere fair to fine at first, but with dull, misty conditions, and some rain/ gradually becoming more widespread. Temperatures will be cooler.

In the past two days New Zealand has fared very well as regards the weather, much better, in fact, than was anticipated, as conditions have been quite bad in the western half of the TasmaTn Sea, ships there experiencing a - severe buffeting from southerly gales. In normal circumstances rather similar conditions would have been expected to move eastwards on to the Dominion, but in this case the depression causing the bad weather has remained almost stationary over the Central Tasman Sea, and has filled up. As a result barometers have remained high and uniform over the Dominion. Commencing yesterday, a relatively weak southerly change worked up from the South Island, and at 9 o'clock this morning had reached almost up to Palmerston North. It is unlikely, however, to go much further northwards. Otherwise winds have been light to variable, chiefly from some northerly direction. There was light rain last night in Otago and Southland. Puysegur Point had 11 points, and Nugget Point 7 points. This morning it was drizzling in the East Coast section between Oamaru and Kaikoura, but otherwise-fair to fine weather has ruled over the Dominion. Temperatures have become cooler with the southerly change. * Although the weather has been fine there, there have been large variations in the amount of cloud at Auckland. Yesterday afternoon, however, was sunny, and there was a clear sky again this morning. Winds have been light and variable, and the weather warm and hazy. The maximum temperature was 70.7 degrees, and the minimum 57 degrees. The weather in Wellington yesterday was fine and warm. There were 9.6 hours of sunshine. The maximum temperature was 71.9 degrees, and the minimum 55 degrees. A light northerly wind prevailed but fell to calm during the night. At 6 a.m. today a moderate southerly breeze sprang up and the weather became threatening.

Christchurch had a splendid day yesterday with a light south-westerly breeze. There was bright sunshine and the temperatures were warm, the maximum being 74.3 degrees, and the minimum 48.2 degrees. During the night the wind freshened a little, and there was a trace of rain. At 9 a.m. the weather was dull and threatening.

Dunedin also had.a fine, warm day yesterday, followed by rain at night accompanying a change of wind to the south. Four points of rain were recorded at the Heads, but this morning conditions had improved a little.
