EASTBOURNE SEAFRONT
{To the Editor.)
Sir, —I wish to endorse the remarks made by your correspondent, "R.L.5.," in Thursday's "Post" with regard to the sand nuisance caused by the removal of sand dunes on the seafront at Eastbourne. I would invite your correspondents on this subject to visit the seafront between Miro and Konini Streets at Muritai where they will see a sorry spectacle, a disgrace to Eastbourne. Motor-lorries have been busy for some time now removing haphazardly sand hills, some only partly. Big holes have been dug everywhere, the diggers evidently relying on- windswept sand to fill them in again and apparently disregarding the likelihood of residents, especially children, falling down the steep sides. Old rails and gear are left lying about and a large unsightly bin, now unused, and a source of danger to children playing on it, is left standing at the end of Konini Street.
The sand dunes removed and partly removed which were covered with growth were, and the few that remain are, a godsend to the residents in the locality, as they kept off the strong prevailing north-westerly winds. They also afforded fine shelter to picnickers, who now, of course, have been driven away. The result now is that the houses of the residents, especially at the end of Miro Street, are continually deluged with sand. A splendid illustration of this was given some time ago by the photo of the house at the end of Miro Street which you published in your paper some weeks ago. Wheelbarrows are kept busy trying to cope with the nuisance. There has been some talk of digging away the sand hill at the end of Konini Street, the removal of which is not wanted by the residents in that street, as they fully realise what they are in for if this is done. I think enough has been written to prove conclusively that "R.L..5." is perfectly correct when he says that the sand dunes are not appreciated by some of the residents of Eastbourne. —I am, etc.,
EASTBOURNIAN.
