COOLER TEMPERATURES Forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong: southerly winds, decreasing tonight. Weather fair to cloudy and rather cool. ' The general forecast issued by the meteorological office at noon today for the Dominion as a whole is for southwesterly to southerly winds, strong at first in the Cook Strait area but later decreasing; elsewhere light to moderate. Scattered showers or drizzling rain are probable at first in various parts of the North Island and eastern districts of the south; otherwise fair to cloudy and improving. Temperatures will be cool to mild. Yesterday fair to cloudy weather prevailed. The winds were light to moderate and variable, with directions between % north-west and north-east predominating. With the passage of a shallow depression, a change to south-westerlies advanced northwards, and by this morning had reached the centre of the North Island. In the Cook Strait vicinity the winds were strong, but elsewhere light to moderate. Some scattered light rains accompanied the depression, but were confined chiefly to the east of the South Island and the Taranaki and Wellington Provinces. The only substantial fall reported was 0.43 in at Puysegur Point. Temperatures were warm yesterday, but became cooler with the southerly change. In Auckland the weather yesterday was fair to cloudy and mild. A light breeze varied between south and west. This morning was dull and a few drops of rain fell. The maximum temperature yesterday was 74.8deg and the minimum 58.5deg. The morning was clear and warm m Wellington, but cloud increased during the afternoon. The night was misty and a little drizzle fell. A moderate northerly wind blew yesterday, but changed to a fresh southerly at 3 a.m. today. The weather this morning was cloudy and cooler. The maximum temperature yesterday was 71.7 dea and iS minimum' 51.2deg. \ The sunshine totalled 6.5 hours. The rainfall was only a trace. In Christchurch the sky was overcast and the wind, a .light northeasterly until evening, when it turned to southerly. The weather was dull this morning. The maximum temperature yesterday was 62.1deg and the minimum 54.5deg. ■ , ~, The weather was cloudy and mild in Dunedin during the day, but in the evening the wind became a light southerly and some rain fell, amounting to 0.17 inches.
