PORK FOR EXPORT.
The fact that New Zealand's current year's export killings of pigs had already shown a drop of over 58,000 as compared with the relative position last year, is referred to by Mr. W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Hamilton, in his monthly message to suppliers in the association's organ, "Pig Progress." In certain areas, the message stated, there had been a substantial change-over from butter manufacture to cheese production and, although this, seasonable conditions, labour difficulties, lower milk production, and the large number of calves reared, had all had an appreciable bearing on the fall in pig production, it was evident that there was an urgent need to revitalise the production of pigs t which was a valuable source of national income.
