ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

WELLINGTON TRIALS

RAKAHANGA GALLOPS WELL

(By "Rangatira.") Only a few visiting horses are yet on the scene at Trehtham, and the real influx will not begin till tomorrow. The weather was dull for the work this morning and a trifle raw, with the indications suggesting that there might be another shower or two before the meeting. Practically all the fast work was done on the outside of the course proper. The trestles >on the coiirse proper were in a bit closer than usual and the horses were able to gallop on the fringe of the area that has been under constant watering for the past three months. The beneficial value of the automatic sprinklers was most apparent, as the hoof-marks showed the turf to be broken to a depth of about three inches and the loosened ground to be yielding and spongy. The going for the meeting will be a delightful change for' the horses, who have been racing on hard ground for the past two months. The only gallop oh the trial grass, which was faster than the course proper, was a haif-miie by Dissipation (L. T. Nesbitt) and Phil (R. L. Hitchen), in 49sec, with Phil finishing oh terms with his companion after starting from behind. On the course proper Beaulivre (G. Duncan) and Globe Trotter (C. Burgess) were both going along well at the end of half a mile in 49 2-ssed; The only horses to better this tiirie 'Were Aranui (G.- Ellis) and Top Row (PV Burgess), who ran 49sec, with the twO^ year-old always a heck or so in ffdiik Rakahanga (R. Hdwell) did a pleasing five furlongs in" lmin 3 l-ssecs the last half-mile in 49 3-ssec. Regale (Howell) was three iengths in front of Serenata (Sentley) after half a mile in 49 4-ssec, btfS the filly was under a hold. Barari (Howell) led Pearl of Asia (A. Foster), through' five furlongs ,in lmiri 4sec, the last half-mile in 56. 3-ssec, but Pearl of Asia is wbfkinf more lazily now and she closed Elsfafi's break in the last furtdiig to a lengths Lady Drake (A. E. Bentiet) showed improved fofrri by riinrting away from Batsham (W. Doyle) at the end of half a mile in 50sec. Debham (J. £. Ahipene) went half a mile aloiie in 50sec. ; Beau Vite (Foster) slipped effortlessly away from Gayest Son (L. Culleh) over the last furlong of five furlongs in lmiri 4sec, the final halfmile taking 50sec. Beaii Vite galloped very attractively. Lustra! (A. W. Sim) showed out as usual in a track trial by easily bfeating Hinerawe (R. J. Belcher), With Etzel (F. Power) tailed off, after running a mile in lmin 46sec, the 13st half-mile in 55sec. Sunee (Hiteheri) was ddirig his best to run a mile in lmih 48sec, the iast half-mile in 55sec. Yours Truly (Nesbitt) joined in near the six furlongs, but he could not be held back with his mate over the Mst furlong and was going away a length in front at the end, still on the bit. Peerless (Doyle) did a working gallop over a mile ifi imin 56sec, the last half-mile in 53sec. Ruling Star (Sim) finished oh more strongly than Floral Robe (Belcher) over six furlongs in imin 17 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. Shy (J. Nicdlsoh) and Southern Blood (D. W. Bush) were not extended over a mile in lmin 54sec, the last haif-mile in 54sec. Royal Show (Burgess) and Pharisee (D. Lamb) required lmin 37sec for seven furlongs, the final halfmile in 55sec, but neither was forced along. , , Happy Heels (R. A. Hawkirigs) arid Lady Lyric (S. G. Robinson) finished together after running six furlongs iri imin 20sec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. Huntino (J. McCs&ley) was three lengths ahead of Arctic King (Power) at the close of five furldhgs in imin ssec, the last half-mije in 50 2-ssec, the big chestnut galloping well all the way though making quite a noise. ■ ' • . Galteemore (Bennet) ran away from Gay Son (Cullen) and Duhgarvari (Doyle) over seven furlongs in liniri 31sec, the last half-mile in 53sec, revealing the same easy action as he showed when winning at Carterton last Saturday. Gay Son closed a bit towards the end, but Dungarvan, who has lately been sore ill the Shoulder* was still scratchy in his action arid ran well below his true track form. Mittie (McCauley) was going better than Queen of Song (Burgess) after seven furlongs in lmin 32sec, the last half-mile in 52sec. Mittie looks well* and so does Queen of Song.
