EVENTS AT EVANS BAY
Three centreboard yacht races were started by the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club oh Saturday afternoon, but only two, those for "fourteens" and Idle Alongs, were finished. The Takapuna race was abandoned when Damfino I capsized. In the four-teen-footers' race only Kitty and Idono started. Results:— X, H, AND N CLASS. Kitty (scr), lh 19m 35s 1 Idono (smin), lh 27m 10s 2 I CLASS.. ' Riptide (scr), lh 6m 8s 1 Belvedere (scr), lh 7m 33s 2 Spitfire (4Jmin), lh 16m 38s 3 Vampire (scr), 4. Reo (2min), withdrew near the finish when running third because of trouble with her gear. The following started in the Z class race:—Mamuka (scr), Damfino I (lmin), Manahau (scr), Juanette (lmin). - A clever Jewish banker brought his gold out of Italy not long ago by moulding it into mudguards for his car and painting over the metal so perfectly that the frontier police were easily hoodwinked.
