MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS
MINISTER ON CONFERENCE
Prior to his departure for the south last evening to open the annual conference of the Municipal Association at Duned: ~ the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) made a statement regarding the work of the conference.
Mr. Parry said that from the agenda paper he had been privileged to see there were, as was customary at these conferences, a number of interesting and well-thought-out recommendations to be discussed. "The development of the country is ever going forward," the Minister said, "and with this progress arid the changing times local governing bodies have necessarily to be alert and active in playing their part, which is large and of importance to the Dominion. It is not for me at this juncture to discuss the subjects of the remits to be presented to the conference except to say that every one of them that carries a majority approval of the delegates will be thoroughly and helpfully considered by the Government."
The Minister added that he was in the happy position of being able to attend the conference without governmental or political timidity because many of his recommendations over the last two or three years had been ratified by the Government and passed by Parliament into statute law.
