MIRAMAR TOURNAMENT
The Miramar Boxing Club's first tourlament of the season, held in the club's hall, Miramar Avenue, last night, was remarkably well patronised for an event so early in the year. Most of the boys competing were novices, seven making their first, appearance in the, ring. All were promising, and the beginners' showings especially reflected credit on their trainers. Owing to unaccustomed punishment, many competitors who won their first bouts did not contest the semi-finals or finals, a decision which had the approval of the spectators.
Results were:—
Flyweight.—F. Gardiner (Petone), 7st 111b, beat McNellly (Newtown), 7st 91b, in the first round. The winner attacked hotly and soon had McNeilly demoralised. Final: F. Gardiner (Petone), 7st 111b, beat B. Gardiner (Petone), 7st 41b, after one round. These two boys are brothers.
