SUCCESSFUL SHOW
COTTAGE GARDEN SOCIETY
The autumn show of the Wadestown Cottage Garden Society was very successful. Sir James Grose presided m the absence of the president, Mr. T. i*. Y. Seddon, and the official opening was performed by Mr. David Jones. The exhibits were* of a high standard and there was good competition in all sections. The champion dahlia was exhibited by Mr. A. Sirett, who won the Sirett Cup. Mrs. B. G.-Kain exhibited a novel basket of seed pods which gained her a special prize. The aggregate trophies were won as follows:— ■ : Vegetables: Mr. G. Nash (holds Seddon Cup for one year), 1; Miss Battersby, 2. Flowers: Miss Battersby, 1; Mrs. R. C. Sinclair, 2. Decorative: Mrs. B. Broadhead, 1; Mrs. G. Munro, 2. Home section: Mrs. N. D. Webster. 1; Mrs. Stan Rollins, 2; special Edmonds prize, Mrs. R C. Sinclair. Children's prizes were won by Doreen Ferguson, Shirley Allen, Shirley Gordon, Nettie Ashworth, Lorna Rollins, and Susan Ferguson. Sir James Grose exhibited some fine dahlias and Miss Hall, Mr. S. H. Watkins, Mrs* Souter, and Miss Baillie also contributed to the "exhibition only" stand. '""
The judges were: —Miss E. A. Beagley, decorative; Miss N. Chartres, home section; Mr. T^ Waugh. flowers and vegetables. During the evening enjoyable instrumental music was played by Masters P. McKenzie, D. Barnes, and L. Stafford, with Mrs. P. Eames at the piano. Opportunity was taken by Sir James Grose to farewell Mr. G. L. Stewart, who is leaving the district, and thanks were extended to the ladies responsible for tKe supper, Mesdames P. Rollins and W. Cramp and Misses Nimmo and D. Stafford.
