BETS LANDED BAREBACK

Riding bareback, S. Cracknell landed bets for £25.00 when he won the first .division of the Two-Year-Old Handicap on Eastbourne at Menangle Park on February 22. Eastbourne's saddle slipped soon after the start of the race and he ran the greater 'part of the journey with it dangling under, him. He beat Brension by A long head, with Warrah Wee half a head away, third. Cracknell had to sit straight up on the horse, and it wa^ only his expert horsemanship that enabled him to keep on the gelding's back. He not only did this, but rode Eastbourne out with hands and heels. Although Eastbourne started at double figures, the result was not a good one for the bookmakers.
