ON TRENTHAM TRACKS
CARTERTON HORSES
SOME RIDING ENGAGEMENTS
(By "Eangatira.")
Horses with engagements at Carterton on Saturday were working at Trentham this morning, but only a few of them were sent seriously against the watch. They are all well forward, and, with the tracks remaining fast, they are not being galloped more than, necessary. The weather was again fine and the plough was in main request. Yours Truly (L. T. Nesbitt) and Good Sun (B. L. Hitchen) ran seven furlongs together in lmin 30sec. Their stable companions, Dissipation and Phil, who have improved as a result of their recent racing at Wanganui, were given serviceable work later on in the morning. G. R. Tattersall will ride Yours Truly, Dissipation, Phil, also Siegmund, on Saturday. Hitchen will be on Good Sun. Siegmund (R. A. Hawkings) was going comfortably within easy reach of Happy Heels (T. Biggs) throughout a mile in lmin 46 2-ssec, the last seven j furlongs in lmin 32sec and the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. Both these horses are fit. Mister Quex (F. Power) did five furlongs alone in lmin 4 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Ugly Duckling (Power) came down from the three furlongs in 40sec. Power will ride these two horses on Saturday, also Titter if she starts in the final event as well as the maiden. Titter (J- D. Ahipene) and Wakarara (P. Burgess) were together at the end of half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Titter will probably be ridden in Saturday's maiden event by W. Doyle, but Wakarara is still without a definite rider. Silver River (H. Duncan) just beat Prediction (Hitchen) over six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the last half-mile in 52sec. Debham (Power) slipped over half a mile in 49 4-ssec.
Diareus (S. G. Bobinson) easily beat Bisect (P. Burgess) over six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Lady Lyric (Hawkings) and Southern Blood (D. W. Bush) did a working gallop over a mile in lmin 47sec, the.last half-mile in 53sec.
Floral Robe (Doyle) was in front of Liane (A. E. Bennet) after five furlongs in lmin 3 2-ssec, the last halfmile in 50 2-ssec, but Liane was not hurried along early. Liane will probably be ridden by J. Forsyth at Carterton.
Mother-in-Law (J. McCauley) beat Gay Hunting (D. Lamb) by half a length over half a mile in 50sec. McCauley will be on Mother-in-Law in the hack sprint on Saturday, and he will also ride Bisect in the highweight. Lustra! (R.1 J. Belcher) worked well in beating Hinerawe (Doyle) at the end of a mile in lmin 46sec, the last half-mile in 54 2-ssec. EtzeJ (Burgess), who has recently been purchased by Mr. O. Disley, set the pace early but tired towards the close. If P. Burgess returns after the first day at Taranaki he will pilot Lustra! on Saturday.
Barabbas (Power) did five furlongs comfortably in Imin ssec, the last halfmile in 52sec. A. Jenkins will ride him on Saturday.
Beau Vite (Bennet) and Lady Drake (Doyle) ran half a mile easily in 50sec. On the outside of the course proper Beaulivre (Duncan) was always clear of Globe Trotter (Hitchen) in a fivefurlong .sprint, the last half-mile in 48sec.
Dungarvan was out doing pace work on the plough, and he moved a bit scratchily, though he was quite all right afterwards.
White Lady, though doing little galloping, is well forward in her work, and she is a mare wlk* usually goes good races fresh and without much galloping. R. A. Hawkings will ride her at Carterton, but no riders have yet been secured for her stableniates, Diareus, Gothic, and Happy Heels. Gothic and Equity were let off with light tasks this morning.
. Peerless was taken on to New Plymouth by T. R. George along with Pearl of Asia, Drachma, and Trebor, the last pair earning the trip as a result of their winning form at Bulls. B. H. Morris has been engaged for Peerless in the Taranaki Cup on Thursday, and he will also ride Trebor, Oratory, and Varimond. G. R. Tattersall, who will be at New Plymouth for the first day, will have the mount on Drachma and Pearl of Asia. J3eaupartir's Taranaki Cup rider will be A. E. Ellis. P. Burgess's only mount to date on Thursday is Nereus in the hack distance event.
George's horses will do only the first day at New Plymouth. Trebor and Drachma will return for Carterton on Saturday. Most of the stable riding at Carterton will be" in the hands of the stable apprentices, W. Doyle and A. E. Bennet.
