COMING EVENTS
It is good news for music lovers to know that another visit is pending from Richard Crooks, the American tenor, who was last in New Zealand two years ago. Mr. Claude Kingston, who is in Wellington with the Covent Garden Russian Ballet, representing the Williamson-Tait organisation, an- . nounces that the personable tenor is to commence a Dominion tour at Auck- ' land on May 13, and after a short season there will sing in Wellington on May 20, 23, and 25. Pleasant memories are held throughout New Zealand of the art of Richard Crooks and his attractive personality. He is a per-. [ sonal friend of Lawrence Tibbett, the ! immensely popular American baritone who was in New Zealand last year. ! Another attraction for Dominion music ; Lovers will be the visit of the young , American-Russian violinist, Grisha . Goluboff, who at the age of seven, was , playing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in Chicago. Grisha made his London debut in 1936 when he played with the London Philharmonic" Orchestra, under Sir Thomas Beecham, at Covent Garden Opera House. He has also played with Sir Henry Wood at Queen's Hall. If the season of the Covent Garden, Russian Ballet is as successful as seems assured already, it is hoped to bring another ballet company to New Zealand during Centennial year, possibly with some of the present company. In that case, Mr. Kingston expressed the hope that such glorious ballets as "Le Cog dOr" and "Fire Bird" (to Stravinsky), and "Petroushka" would be performed here.
