First Morning Tea. Membership in the Victoria League I has been increasing so rapidly that at the first of the monthly morning tea parties given this year by the committee to welcome new*- members and those recently returned from abroad only a section of these could be asked. The acting president, Mrs.. L. O, H. Tripp, also extended warm greetings to several guests from other centres. These included, Mrs. Hernshaw, of London, whose husband has recently taken up a new appointment at Victoria College, Mrs. A. Hindson (Auckland), and Miss Wickens (Gisborne), who is gathering information from the Young Contingent of the league in Wellington with a view to a similar extension in the north. Mrs. Tripp spoke of the many activities planned by the branch for the coming season in Wellington and in bidding farewell to a number of travellers said that though she regretted they would not be present, she could be sure that they would be enjoying the hospitality of the league in other lands. Among the new members entertained were Mesdames E. le Petit, P. K. Bryan, W. R. Rowe, C. W. Mack, A. Martin, C. Robinson, A. M. Tartakover, C. E. Adams, Miss D. Mazengarb, N. Trimnell, L. van Staveren, P. W. Fpokes, A. Davies, E. J. Robertson, Q. B. Cowles, E. Watson, O. D. Rowe, J. Lennie, and A. T Crawford Members of the committee present included Mesdames D. Rodie, sG. King, P. de B. Brandon, J. BarringtonSmyth, W. A. Gledhill; and Misses F. Penney, Gibson, P. Gledhill, G. Nor-man-Jones, Thompson, and Evans. Reception to Delegates. The programme planned to entertain members of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, who accompanied by their wives and daughters, are visiting Christchurch for the biennial conference opened yesterday, states the Christchurch "Star-Sun." In the ( late- afternoon the Canterbury division entertained at a sherry party held through the courtesy of Dr. and Mrs. P. Stanley Foster, at their home in Papanui, when members and other guests were welcomed by Dr. P. A. Ardagh, president of the division, and Mrs. Ardagh. In the evening the president of the New Zealand Branch, Dr. Foster, with Mrs. Foster, gave a reception to several hundred guests in Beath's lounge, the long list including visitors from all parts of New Zealand as well as many representative Christchurch people. Mrs. Foster's beautiful gown was of fresco blue and silver brocade fashioned very simply and finished with flowers of deep pejtunia colouring lined with the brocade, worn in a cluster on the bodice. At the conclusion of the evening she wore the badge designed for the wife of the president of the New Zealand division presented to her by Mrs. J. P. S. Jamieson, wife of the retiring president. Mrs. Jamieson was in a gown of black slipper satin with vivid scarlet flowers relieving the bodice. Mrs. P. A. Ardagh's gown of arcady blue matelasse was worn with a floral coatee. Special Luncheon Menu. Grated carrot, cheese, tomato, and potatoes baked in their jackets provided the first course at the luncheon given by the Business and Professional Women's Round Table Club at the Blue Triangle Hall yesterday. The second course consisted of fresh fruit, blancmange and cream, and was followed by hot coffee. It was a special menu arranged in recognition of Physical Fitness Week. All around the walls there were instructions regarding what to eat, and what not to eat, and the guest of honour was Dr. Mary Champtaloup, who gave an ad-
dress on physical fitness. There was a large muster of members and their friends, among the visitors being Miss Lambie (Director of Nursing), Mrs. Stewart M.P., Mrs. Nelson of Vancouver, and Miss Helen R. Macdonald the new Y.W.C.A. Physical Director. Three long tables were arranged at right angles to xhe official tables, and decorations of flowers made them look very gay. Dr. Champtaloup was presented with a shoulder spray of roses. "Market Day" Tomorrow. Tomorrow has been set aside by the I ladies' auxiliary of the V.M.C.A. as! "market day." Home-made goods will! be on sale in the lounge from 10.30 in the morning to 4.30 p.m. Miss Caro-j line Ward, of the Health and Beauty j League, will give a talk at 3 p.m. All j women are cordially invited to attend, I
