MR. NASH'S REGRET
QUESTION OF SURPLUS
{By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day,
"I can only say that I regret there Is to be a reduction in the quantities of New Zealand mutton and lamb to be admitted into Great Britain," said the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash), when informed of the British Government's decision this moniing. He added that he was unable to make further comment until he had examined all the, facts contained in the cables in Wellington. Negotiations between the New Zea-| land and British Governments had been proceeding since the latter part of last year, stated the Minister, and he had been kept fully informed at each stage
Asked whether a surplus of production was likely to be experienced in the Dominion, Mr. Nash replied: "It is too early at this stage to forecast the effects of the restriction, but if the British market is unable to absorb the whole of the mutton and lamb' available for shipment from New Zealand, the Government will be able to deal with the position in some other way. I think we can adapt ourselves to the new circumstances created by the quota."
