MANY SMALL PARTIES

The health of the young is being well looked after, and there should be few children after the "Learn to Swim Week" who will not at least have confidence in their ability to support themselves in the water. This is a splendid prelude to "Physical Fitness Week," which should do much towards making young and old conscious that physical fitness is a necessary attribute to happiness.
Farewells.
Many parties have been given recently for Mrs. J. G. Mackay on the eve of her departure for England. Mr. Mackay is the popular head of Rutherford House, and Mrs. Mackay will be much missed during her stay abroad. Among the hostesses was Mrs. H. V. Searle, who gave a delightful morning tea one day last week, her guests including Mrs. F. J. Earle, Mrs. F. Peck, Mrs. G. C. Kirk, Mrs. J. P. S. Jamieson, Mrs. Norman Jones, and Mrs. R. H. Methven.
At a very pleasant little ceremony members of the staff of the Nelson Boys' College and their wives met to wish Mrs. Mackay good lunk and a safe return, and Mrs. H. F. Elliott made a small presentation.
Bridge,
A very enjoyable bridge p^rty was given by Mrs. E. B. Izard. at her home in Brougham Street, in honour of Miss L. Turton, recently returned from England. Some of the guests were Mesdames Vernon Rout, E. T. Menlove, C. R. Fell. A. Campbell-Smith, E. Caselberg, H. R. Robison, S. A. Gibbs.
Five O'clock,
A small sherry party was given by Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Fell for Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Fell, Wellington, who are at present staying with them. Some of the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Duncan, Dr. and Mrs. R. Lucas. Miss Moore, Mr. and Mrs. J. Glasgow, Miss Carmichael, and Mr. and Mrs. I. A. H. Symes.
Personals.
Mrs. D. C. Low has returned from the North Island and will leave with Dr. Low at the end of the week for the medical conference which is being held in Christchurch.
Mrs. J. Hurrell left this week to join the Rimutaka en route for England.
Canon and Mrs. Haultain have returned to Nelson from a holiday spent at Anakiwa.
Miss Nancy Trimnell, who has been staying with Dr. and Mrs. R. Lucas, returns to Wellington this week.
Mrs. A. Stoll, who has been in Nelson for a few days, has returned to Canterbury.
Miss M. Mackay left Nelson this week on her return to Australia.
Miss. Barbara Taylor, Dunedin, has taken up her duties as matron of the Nelson Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Fell will return to 'Wellington at the beginning of next week.
Miss Joyce Levien is on leave from the New Plymouth Hospital and is staying with her parents.
