PERSONAL NOTES

Sir Walter and Lady Carncross, who have been spending several days in Wellington, have returned to Eltharn.

Miss Agnes Duncan, Hobson Street, left yesterday for Sydney by the Wanganella and will return to Wellington after Easter for her wedding to Mr. Charles MacDermott.

Mrs. Knox Gilmer left today for a short visit to Palmerston North.

Miss Joan Dutton, Fitzherbert Terrace, left yesterday by the Wanganella for Sydney, en route to England, where she will make her future home.

Canon and Mrs. J. de B. Galwey, who have been in Britain and Europe for the past three years, have returned to New Zealand. They are making a short visit to Auckland and will spend several days in Wellington before leaving next week to stay with Mrs. Galwey's sister, Miss M. Coop. Little River, Christchurch.

Miss K. Pickmere, Whangarei, has arrived to take up the position of assistant botanist at the Dominion Museum, Wellington. As an amateur botanist, Miss Pickmere has won recognition for her work throughout the North Island, her knowledge of North Auckland flora being unusually comprehensive. As an exhibitor and judge of native flowers and plants, she has gained wide distinction.

Mr. J. L. Scoullar, of the staff of the "New Zealand Herald," Auckland, and Mrs. Scoullar are visiting Wellington and are the guests of Mrs. W. J. Gray, Mowbray Street.

Mrs. Willes, England, a sister „ of Sir Heaton Rhodes, arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella during the week.

Mrs. W. H. Nelson, Woodville, has been visiting Wellington to bid farewell to her daughter, Miss Patricia Nelson, who left by the Wanganella yesterday for Sydney after a short visit to her parents.

Mrs. Walter Raymond and Miss Doreen Raymond, Timaru, are the guests of Mrs. Frank Reading, Tinakori Road, for the wedding of Mr. Frpnk Reading and Miss Joan Withell, which will take place at St. Peter's Church tomorrow.

Miss Denise Woolton and Miss Margaret Ewen, Auckland, arrived at Wellington today en route for Southland, where they will stay with Mrs. Noel McGregor.

Mrs. P. R. Cook, Masterton, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Leslie "tfisbet, Karori.

Mrs. M. Olive and ■ Miss Dorothy Olive, Southland, left by the Wanganella last night for Sydney where they will join the Orcades for England. They will be away for about a year.

Mrs. J. F. Studholme, Masterton, is visiting Wanganui.

Nurse F. K. Sugden and her daughter, Miss Alice Sugden, Wellington, left''last night by the Wanganella for a visit to Sydney.

Mr. and Mrs, A. T. Cartwright, Kelburn, left by the Wanganella last night for Sydney to connect with the Orcades for England and the Continent.

Miss Steer Chalk, Wadestown, is spending a holiday with Miss Anne Bright, Hawera.

Dr. and Mrs. McKellar and Mr. Peter McKellar, Dunedin, are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Harding, Petone, for the Reading-Withell wedding on Saturday.

Miss Muriel Kelburn, left Wellington last night by the Wanganella for Sydney.

Mrs. C. W. Gatehouse and her two sons, of Auckland, are staying with Mrs. J. L. Gatehouse, Miramar, prior to leaving to reside in Invercargill.

Miss Barbara Gould, Christchurch, has arrived at WeHington from Auckland, en route for the south.

Mr. and Mrs. M. Sander have returned to Wellington after a two weeks' tour in Marlborough Sounds.

Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Goodwin are Mangatainoka visitors to Wellington, where they are staying \vith Mrs. Goodwin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wiggins.

Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Smith, Day's Bay, left this morning for a motor trip to Auckland, Tauranga, and Rotorua districts. They expect to be away about three weeks.
