Mr. B. V. Pemberton, who upon his retirement from' the Meteorological Office went to England for an extended visit, returned to Wellington today, accompanied by^ Mrs. Pemberton, by the Stratheden.
Mr. F. H. Coventry, F.R.S.A,, N.R.D., a New Zealand artist who has been woi'king in England during the last ten years, has returned by the Rangitiki on a visit to his parents who reside in Wellington While he has y been abroad Mr. Coventry has met with, considerable success in the world of art. .
Mr. James A. Linen, president and chairman of directors of the International Correspondence Schools, Lon* don, accompanied by Mr. J. Wray, managing director for Australia and New Zealand, arrived at Wellington yesterday on a short visit to New Zealand.
The Rev. F. R. Rawle, precentor of Christchurch Cathedral since 1926, will retire shortly, and take up his per- > manent residence in the North Island. He first served as a minister of the Presbyterian Church at Guernsey in the Channel Islands for four years, . - and then deciding to enter the Anglican ministry, he was ordained deacoa at Wells in 1909. In 1911 he married Miss Alice Ragg, .daughter of the Rev. Alban Ragg. In 1913 he was priest at Chichester. He was in charge of th« mission church in Pagham parish, : noted for its association with St. Wilfrid and St. Thomas a'Beckett. After a year in Alberta Mr. Rawle came to New Zealand in 1917, being stationed first at New Plymouth, going to Christ- - ' church in 1918 and spending two years - - at St. Michael's Church as assistantpriest. After a Jew months in Timaru . he went to Waikari for three and a half years. He spent two and a half years at Prebbleton before taking up his present position. From 1924 to 1926 Mr. Rawle was chaplain at Paparua Prison, and he was chaplain for the Community of the Sacred Name from .- • 1931 to 1938. He was also a tutor in theology at College House. The Rev. ; S. E. Woods, of College House, ha« been appointed part-time precentor at . the cathedral.
Flight-Lieutenant Vv d'A. Black- . burn, a New Zealander, who has beea a member of the medical service of the Royal Air Force, arrived at Auckland by 'the Rangitiki yesterday with ' Mrs. Blackburn and their daughter to" . spend two months with Flight-Lieu-tenant Blackburn's parents. After that he will go to India, where he has been transferred. •

Sir William Thomlinson, of County ' Durham, England, was a member of a party, of English tourists who dis- •'■ embarked at Wellington from the '• Stratheden today. Sir, William is D&- ■ •-, puty-Lieutenant of the county. He was lieutenant-colonel and later cplonel commandant of ,B division of the East' Coast defence forces during the-war. ,/
