AUCKLAND TROTS ATTACK ON MILE RECORD
The chief attraction of the Auckland Trotting Club's February Meeting, which opens at Epsom tomorrow, will be the special, attempt on the mile record by Van Derby, who will endeavour to lower his own Australian and New Zealand record figures of 2min 1 l-ssec. Reports from the north state that conditions are likely to be perfect for the trial, and if they remain so there is every reason to anticipate another outstanding performance on the part of the brilliant Aus-tralian-bred pacer. I The fields have all filled exceptionially well, and with a sprinkling of southern competitors in several of the races the issues are sure to be keenly contested. Betting will be on the win-and-place system, and the following may be fancied: — Trial Handicap. — Audrey's Last, Aurumar, Gold Kip.
