FALSE STATEMENT TO

POLICE

A fine of £2 and costs was imposed upon Charles John Coveny, who appeared in the Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., and pleaded guilty to a charge of making a false statement to the police.

Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle described how the accuser", had made a statement that his car had been unlawfully removed,- and subsequently admitted to Detective Lang that it had caught fire while he was driving it. He later conceived the idea of reporting it to be stolen.

The car was not insured, said the detective-sergeant, and the accused had nothing to gain by his false statement.
