ITALY AND SOVIET

SIGNING OF TREATY

(Received February 8, 1.40 p.m.) ROME, February 7. A treaty between Italy and the Soviet has been signed, renewing commercial relations between the two countries, which have been at a standstill since 1936. It is hoped that the treaty will result in trade to the value of £10,000,000 a year. The total value of Italy's foreign trade decreased 12 per cent, in 1938. The figures were:—lmports, £121,000,000, compared with £151,000.000; exports. £88,000,000, as against £87,000,000. The adverse trade balance has been reduced.
