CITY'S AERODROME

EXTENSION SOUGHT

CONFERENCE CALLED

A conference of representatives of the Miramar Golf Club, the Wellington Aero Club, the Rongotai College governors, the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company, and, the City Council to discuss the advisability and feasibility of transferring Rongotai College to a suitable site east of the present aerodrome in order that the aerodrome may better serve its purpose, is to be called by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.

Presenting a recommendation to this effect on behalf of the transport committee at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night, Mr. A. R. Hislop said that Rongotai was the busiest aerodrome in New Zealand and urgently needed further .development.

Captain S. Holm said that, at the request of the committee, he Jiad asked the Minister for a copy of the report prepared by the commission which had investigated Rongotai Aerodrome. The Minister replied that he considered it better that the report should be withheld in the meantime.

In reply to the president (Mr. P. E. Pattrick), Captain Holm said that there was no indication when the , report would be released. It was nearly two years since it was prepared. It was no secret,- he added, that the report recommended that the site of Rongotai College should be taken for the extension of the aerodrome.

Mr. E. E. Brooking, speaking as a member of the Miramar Golf Club, said that improvements would be necessary before the Centennial tournament, but the club was reluctant to begin the work till it "knew just what land might be required for the new Rongotai College. Seeing that the commission's''report was two years old, he thought the chamber could reasonably ask the Government for a decision one way or the other.
