Britain, which is placed fourth in' the list of the world's greatest iron and steel-producing countries—behind the United States. Germany, and Russia—records a drop in the production of crude iron to 6.900.000 tons during 1938, as compared with 8,629.000 tons in 1937. Her crude steel production decreased from 13.455.000 tons to 10,900,000 tons. It was recently announced in the , official Reich Gazette that, regulations against the employment of .juvenile labour on nightl shifts are to be re» laxed until March 31 in steel work* metal building works, spring factories shipyards, and similar concerns dealing with iron and steel. - Adult workers in the iron and steel industry may now' be called upon lt& -work overtime up ;to a maximum week* ly total of 54 hour*.
