OLYMPIC GAMES
NEW ZEALAND TEAM
TIME OF DEPARTURE
The council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, at a recent meeting, approved of the proposal to send a small team of top-grade men from this country to the Olympic Games at Helsinki, Finland, in 1940. At last night's meeting, the council decided that the team should arrive in England at least three months before the Games.
The council, in response to a request, had before it a letter from the American coach, Mr. A. L. Fitch, in which he expressed the view that the team must be sent several months in advance if it was to perform well. He suggested that it should leave about April 1 and should travel by the Pacific x%oute and via America to enable the members of the team to get some exercise en route.
On the motion of Mr. H. I. Austad, it was decided to advise the New Zealand Olympic Association that the council's opinion was that the team should arrive in England at least three months before the date of competition at Helsinki.
