MIRAMAR SOCIETY
The Miramar Esperanto. Society opened the 1939 season in St. Aidan's Hall, Miramar Aventie, on Monday night.
In extending a welcome to old and new members, the president, Mr. Bertram Potts referred to the society's display of . Esperanto books, both original and translated works from many nations, including the Orient. Among the books were novels, scientific works, translations from Shakespeare, Moliere, and other famous writers. Members who had passed the examination test of the New Zealand Esperanto Association were congratulated.
Mr. Colin Morrison, the society's delegate at the recent ninth New Zealand Esperanto Congress, reported briefly on the success of" the three-day deliberations.
In view of the approaching Centennial celebrations it has been arranged that the tenth New Zealand Esperanto Congress shall take place in Wellington at the end of the year.
"La Kroniko" ("The Chronicle"), the weekly organ of the society, was distributed.
Tuition classes were organised. The ranks of the teachers were increased by Messrs. William Smith (secretary) and Colin Morrison (treasurer). It was ..announced that the introduction of a programme after the lesson period would commence next week, when a Viennese Esperantist, recently arrived in New Zealand, would give a talk in the language and a running translation would be made for the benefit of beginners.
