THE SUMMER MEETING
WEATHER DULL BUT FINE
TRACK AGAIN FAST
(By "Rangatira.") After a fortnight's spell of fine .weather, conditions were overcast, though cooler, for the final day of .the Wellington Trotting Club's, Sum-.•-jmer Meeting at Hutt Park this afternoon. Light rain fell overnight, but it ?had. practically no effect on the track, which was again hard and, fast. There was a large crowd in attendance when the racing commenced, and - the successful opening of Thursday prorftised to be maintained. The racing was keen from the opening of the programme. A running commentary, as usual, was broadcast on the course. Mabking up his handicap quickly, he was fourth .following Shadeland, Bill Grattan, and Dollar Maid after a quarter of a mile, and when the two leaders broke <up badly entering the straight he was left well clear. Franz Derby, who was handy after a round, missed the trouble and came on for second, with Jenny's , Guy, who was seriously interfered with

Though her task was made easier, by Resistance and Worthy Need locking in the favourite, Kilrea, it is doubtful if that made any difference to the result, as. the time: was a track record for the class. Acuity moved up into a handy position after a round and then, facile"ly cutting down the leaders between '■: • the. half -mile and three furlongs, she Ijveht on to | win effortlessly by six lengths from Worthy Need who had '..-..''' followed Resistance from the start. Once free, Kilrea "finished well into ■"■"•• third place, with Ropata, i Silk King, : Ace High, and Resistance nearest of the others. Silk King would probably have been, in the money if he had not broken on the home turn. Resistance 7 stopped an the last three furlongs and took Kilrea with him.* Won by six lengths; one and a half lengths between second and third. Times, 3min 13 3-ssec, 3min 17 4-ssec, 3min 18 3-ssec.
