SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

With 36 ships in port today the Wellington wharves continued to be very busy, and there is still a shortage of waterside labour. The shortage, which was first felt last week, has delayed the departure of several overseas ships, but the position is now improving, and there are no ships without any labour { at all. All vessels in port have been affected, some of the later arrivals last week more seriously than the others; The Port Saint John, which arrived last Friday to continue her Homeward loading, had no labour that day," and it is now doubtful if she will get away tomorrow for Napier: The Tainui, which was to have left here on, Thursday for Southampton and Lon-j don, will not sail until Friday because of the shortage. Five or six'more ships are due towards the end of the week so the waterfront will be busy for a while yet
