MASPORT CUP
NO RACE THIS SEASON
Notification has been received in Wellington that there will be ho Masport Cup race this season. Messrs. Taubmans and Mr. R. Moult, of Wellington, who own the Taiibman 111, have received from the Picton Power-boat Association the following reply to their challenge for the cup:—. "I have to advise. that your challenge for the Masport Cup has been considered by my association. After giving the matter due consideration I was instructed to advise you that the association could not agree to arrange a contest for this season. However, a motion was carried that subject to the New Zealand Power-boat Association agreeing to the race being held prior to January 1 an endeavour be made to stage a big Centennial event, probably on Boxing Day. If we find that for any reason this is not practicable locally consideration will be given to holding the event in Auckland or Wellington." The abandoning of the contest this year is. disappointing to the owners of Taubman 111, who have expended a lot of time and money on preparing her for the race. ' • .
