INSTITUTE OF VALUERS

A decision to form in Wellington a branch of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers was reached at a well-at-tended meeting of Government and practising valuers, held in' the Town Hall last week. The objects of the institute are, briefly, to unite members of the profession into one general body, to raise the status and advance the interests of the profession, to improve and elevate the technical knowledge of members, to traiii and examine students, to represent generally the views and interests of the profession, to promote a high standard of efficiency and integrity in the practice of valuation, and to obtain a charter. Mr. Gordon Harcourt was elected as chairman, and the following officers were appointed—Vice-chairman, Mr. C ['T. Buckingham; committee, Messrs. L. lA. Macallister, J. W. Gellatly, J. S. Turnbull, D. Sloane (practising valuers), and Messrs. G. C. Thornton, J. W. Bailey, R. Self, and R. McGowan (Government Valuers). Mr. J. W. Jenkins was appointed secretary and treasurer. The chairman appealed to members to further the objects of the institute and pointed out that both Government and practising valuers could do a great deal towards the establishment of educational facilities for student members.
