EXHAUSTIVE POLICE INQUIRY

(Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Mystery surrounds the finding of a Maori, George Kahi, single, aged 24, of Pukekohe, lying at the side of Massey Road, Te Kauwhata, at 11.30 o'clock on Saturday night with severe head injuries. The discovery was made by Mr. W. A. Watson as he turned his car in towards the gateway •of his house. Mr. Watson took the injured man to a doctor at Ngaruawahia, who sent him to the Waikato Hospital, Hamil-j ton, where he lies in a serious, condition, Auckland detectives and local police are investigating the matter. Th£ spot where Mr. Kahi was found is about a mile to the north of Te Kauwhata. When Mr. Watson found him he was unconscious and badly hurt'about the head and shoulders. Since his arrival at the Waikato Hospital he has had only one very brief period of consciousness, and he has given no inkling of how he became in^ | jured. ■•■•■■ ! Police officers from Huntly and I Pukekohe and Detectives Waterson and H. Wilson, from Auckland, made widespread inquiries throughout the district yesterday, but they were able to gather little information to support the suggestion that Mr. Kahi was the 'victim- of an assault. •• '
