REBEL ADVANCE HELD UP

LONDON, January 22
The Gibraltar correspondent of the British United Press-says that Italian troops estimated at several thousand arrived in.the vicinity of Cadiz and Malaga on January 20, where also Italian and German steamers- have been discharging an enormous quantity of war materials, including tanks, for the past fortnight.
A message from Barcelona states that severe fighting continues on the outskirts of Igualada and Villa Franca. The former town is reported to have changed hands several times yesterday. The insurgent advance from Calaf to Manresa is stated to have been held up at Salaverina.
A report from Burgos says that the capture of Igualada and Vil^a Franca is definitely claimed. The rebel vanguard is reported to be nine miles from Manresa, and the occupation of Altes is claimed.
A decree issued at Barcelona closes all non-military business houses in the coming week for the release of workers for the construction of city fortifications. Failure to comply with the decree will be regarded as high treason.
