NO OPEN DOOR
POLITICAL REFUGEES
CANADA'S OWN PROBLEM
MONTREAL, January 21,
"As long as Canada has an unemployment problem there will be no open door for political refugees," stated Mr. F. Rinfret, Secretary of the State Government today. He said that he had decided to maintain the restrictions against European immigration.
This announcement caused, a surprise in League of Nations circles, as it was believed that Canada was actively preparing a programme seeking to admit a limited number of German Jews by settlement on lands throughout the Canadian West.
